Driven by the material (coloured pencils) and daily searching for the objects by wich light raid, shadow, fold and colour are playing a part, I'm almost daily busy with drawing. Coming from a 'drawing-family' (grandfather Adank has won the 'Breda Award for Art' 3 time in a row (1896-1897-1898) and my father was no painter/artist/art-teacher in merrit too) I upholt the family tradition. I was already drawing at a very young age. During the many walks through the forests around Breda with my grandparents, brothers and sisters and others (my parents had a big family and were always very busy) I made (in according to my grandmother) hundred of drawings in the sand with the first branch I could find. Always only drawing, drawing and drawing. 'He will certainly become an artist' my grandmother always said! After the elementary and secundairy school, it wasn't strange that I started to studying at the St. Joost Academy of Art and Design in Breda, (section Advertising&Design) and at the School of Graphic Arts in Utrecht (section Rotogravure colour-retouche). Both educations I certificated with success. After these educations I passed the exams for art-teacher in drawing and handycraft in Eindhoven. During my job (work) in a Rotogravure-office, speciality colour-retouching, I learned to look at the smallest details of drawing and colouring, so the precision work. From 1976 till today, as an art-teacher in drawing, handycraft, windowdressing and publicity, I try to pass 'the detail', the precision work, to my pupils. But (drawing)blood is thicker than water, so during several years I'm busy drawing again, almost every day. Daily subjects, by wich, as said light raid, shadow, fold and colour, detail and precision are playing an important role for me. An almost photographical approach is nearly almost a 'must' for me. Just with (dry) coloured pencils! Layer, after layer, after layer....lovely works. Often it is a struggle with the tools to find the exact reproduction. But that's for me just fascinated and defiant For more information about my art, exhibitions, orders, prices, reactions, sales, tasks and guestbook: Henny Adank-drawings-Breda Mandenmakerstraat 17 4813 KG Breda The Netherlands / Holland @mail: hadank@ziggo.nl internet: www.hennyadank.com www.hennyadank.exto.nl
